Reading Week First Day

We started out Read Across America Week with making a poster about reading.  Our principal asked for each class to make a poster celebrating reading with the hope that it will stay up through next year this time. Well here's our result:

I took each students pictures as they read and they each finished the writing frame: Reading is....Because....
I connected the writing to opinions and similes.  We've already discussed writing opinions and have been learning about similes with our current poetry unit.  Some got it and some didn't, but they all wrote about why reading is good.  I printed each picture wallet size and the students rewrote their writing draft into the speech bubble.  The two blanks are for the two that were absent today to finish tomorrow.

Click here to get all of the pages I used, including the Header, Seuss pictures from the3amteacher, the speech bubbles and the writing frame to draft their message.

    1. My neighboring teammate is so artistic and has done a very cute and fancy poster, but this one worked great for me and my class. The kids all loved seeing themselves on the poster and reading each other's quotes.
